Mrs. Cirrotti –Creating Your Own Ted Talk
TED: IDEAS WORTH SPREADING
TED began as a conference to spread insightful ideas through short powerful talks in technology, entertainment and design. Today, TED talks showcase powerful ideas in every area of culture, technology and science. TED Talks have become the “gold-standard” for great presentations. Over a billion people have enjoyed and learned from TED Talks, which can be watched on Youtube.
Warren Middle School offers Creating Your Own TED Talk as an 8th grade cycle class.
In our class, students develop an “idea worth worth spreading,” research credible sources, and create presentations with powerful visuals. We then practice delivering talks with excellent public speaking skills to present an engaging “TED” style talk. Students present their talks to the class, record them, and assess their strenths and weaknesses.
"All great TED Talks rely on the speaker’s ability to be authentic. Authenticity often means being vulnerable enough to speak about personal experiences of all kinds. Within TED-Ed Student Talks, we assign a lot of importance to creating space for students to feel empowered and safe to share their opinions and explore others’ ideas freely." (TED-ed)
Students will work hard in the 6 week class, building skills that will help them in future academic and professional capacities. Students say this class is “hard, but worth it!”
