A Counselor's Role

WELCOME TO EIGHTH GRADE!

I am the school counselor for the 8th grade. My role as the eighth grade counselor is to help foster the social and emotional growth of students in an effort to help them succeed academically and personally. I see students based on student self-referral, parent request, or teacher or administrator referral. Students can meet with me individually or in small groups. I will provide support to students so they can do their best in school, which includes:

  • crisis management
  • stress management
  • academic concerns
  • problem solving
  • scheduling issues
  • conflict resolution
  • friendship issues
  • study skills
  • family change
  • anxiety
  • grief

 

Other Roles:

In addition to meeting with students I perform other roles as the 8th grade counselor. These include:

  • Guidance presentations on topics such as Character Education, Bullying and Conflict Resolution
  • Attending team meetings and discussing student issues
  • Attending parent conferences and meeting individually with parents
  • Participating in the Middle School I&RS Committee
  • Overseeing 504 Plans
  • Coordinating standardized testing
  • Preparing students and families for the transition to high school
  • Assisting students and families applying for private school (transcript requests)
