Dear Parents,

Welcome to Warren Middle School where we strive to provide each child with an education from one of the best middle schools in the state of New Jersey. The staff of Warren Middle School is proud of its tradition of educational excellence.

Warren Middle School is a building comprised of grades 6, 7, and 8 with an enrollment of approximately 800 students and a staff of 116. The educational staff includes regular and special education teachers, guidance counselors, child study team members, paraprofessionals, secretaries, and custodians. The facility was built in 1973 with classrooms added on in 1998 and 2001. The most recent addition added 17 instructional spaces onto the building, as well as a new gymnasium.

The academic program offers a variety of classes with all students studying the core curriculum in the areas of language arts, science, math, social studies, and world language (French, Spanish, and now Mandarin for our 6th graders). Students also take physical education with a component of Project Adventure based upon cooperative learning and higher order thinking skills. Each grade level has seven cycles of Unified Arts each year. At grade 6, students participate in a cycled program of Art, Music, Computers, Study Skills, Home Arts, Innovation & Design, and Health. Seventh grade students also participate in a cycled program that includes Songwriting, Drama, Excel, Innovation and Design, Visual Arts, Food & Nutrition, and Movies. Our eighth grade students have an elective program where students select 5 out of a possible 13 choices to fulfill their 7 cycles. The remaining two are required courses titled Tech Literacy 8 and Innovation & Design. The choices may include such electives as Design & Sew, Journalism, Literary Magazine, Drama, Explorations in Art, or Roots of Rock. In addition, our music program is more robust than ever with offerings such as Orchestra, Band, and Chorus. All grades are on-line for parents and students through a password protected parent and student portal.

The guidance staff and child study team staff offer support for all students. Character building through an advisor-advisee program is a large part of the emphasis of the school, as all staff members are concerned about each and every child's welfare.

The Warren Board of Education also supports a wide variety of after-school programs available to students on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week.

I believe that you will find your child's experience at Warren Middle School to be an educationally fruitful one where each child grows socially, emotionally, and intellectually.

Sincerely,
Robert W. Comba
