WMS Students Participate in National Mathleague Competition & Take Top Honors in New Jersey
As the largest network of local and state math competitions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in the United States and abroad, Mathleague.org runs more than 400 contests globally and reaches over 30,000 students each year. On Sunday, November 22nd, three WMS students participated along with about 125 students from twelve states in the nation (New Jersey, Florida. Alabama, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Virgina, Washington, Wisconsin and Georgia) in the virtual November 2020 middle school qualifying round. Seventh graders, Ryan C. and Christopher S. along with eighth grader, Selina Z. took on the challenge by competing in the Sprint, Target and Team Rounds, which mimic the rounds found in the Mathcounts Competition that is held nationally each year. Ryan and Christopher joined forces and competed as a team, while Selina competed as a one-person team. Our students did extremely well among top math students throughout the United States and should be proud of their talents and efforts! As New Jerseyans, all three of our school's participants placed in several of the rounds and our seventh grade team placed third overall in the state. The next qualifying round will take place in December and is open to any WMS student who wishes to take on this big challenge!!! Congratulations Ryan, Christopher and Selina for representing our school with distinction!
