Today is Day B

 

After school Clubs

Today is the first day of clubs, and the first day of late buses. Please check the lists in the APR for your club information, including where it will be meeting. Also check with your club teachers after school to find out which late bus to take home.

 

Remember that Ms. Hunt must have your permission slip before you can stay after school for any club. You may leave your slip in the folder on her door, Room 43.

 

Ceramics Club

Mrs. Lettire’s Ceramics Club is canceled for today,  Tuesday, October 1st. Students should go home on their regular buses this afternoon. Ceramics Club will resume next Tuesday, October 8th.

 

Trip to Chinatown

Any 7th or 8th grader interested in a trip to Chinatown in New York City can contact Mrs. Pang or Mrs. Cooper. This cultural experience will take place on Saturday, October 26th. The trip leaves the middle school at 9am and includes a walking tour of historical and current Chinatown, authentic cuisine at a local Chinese restaurant, a visit to a Chinese shopping emporium and a tour of the Museum of Chinese in America. This will be a fascinating and educational experience. All students need to secure a parent chaperone to attend and the cost is only $35 per student. We will return back to middle school by 3:00pm.  

 

Poetry Contest

Attention all Poets!  The poetry contest is now open for submissions.  The winning poem will be used as lyrics for a song that will be performed during the spring chorus concert in May. Submissions are due to Mrs. Jensen by: Monday, October 7th, 2019  

 

Please share your poem on Google Drive to Amy Jensen, along with your name, grade, and the title of your poem.  The subject of your email should be “Poetry Contest”

 

Poster Contest

If any student at the middle school would like to create and submit a poster for the International Lions Club’s Peace Poster Contest, please stop by Mrs. Cooper’s room 32 for more information. You can also get this information in Mrs. Lettire’s and Mrs. Ronkiewicz’s classrooms.

 This year’s theme is “Journey of Peace”. The deadline for submissions is October 31st.

 

 


 

Sport Announcements

 

Boys Soccer game HOME today verses Clinton @ 4:00 PM

 

Girls soccer 

The team shut out Montgomery and Warren Hills last week while scoring 17 goals in the 2 games. Goals scored by Lexi C, Nina Bina, Francesca, Helena, Dayra, Little Lexi, Ana, Julia, Emma, Juliette, Ava T and Sabrina. The team heads to Clinton today and will leave on the bus at 2:20

 

Winter Sports

Sign ups for Winter sports begins today in Genesis.  Sign ups will be open from September 16th – October 15th.

 

All sports forms (Complete physical exam forms or Health history update forms, for those students who already have current physical exams in place) are due into the health office by October 15, 2019.

 

No Sports Forms will be accepted after October 15th.  There will be no exceptions to this deadline.  All forms must be in the Health Office by October 15th.

PTO News!

 

Next PTO Meeting is on Tuesday October 22nd at 9am.

 

7th Grade Rec Event 18th October

6th Grade Rec Event 25th October - come have a fun social  with your grade ! 

Both events will be after school from 3pm-4pm  in the APR / Gym and possibly outside weather permitting. Cost is $5 to cover DJ etc..Flyers, permissions slips and sign up genie will be going out shortly. 

 

Become a PTO Member - Our budget is driven by our membership so join us! Pay dues and contribute a donation when next fooddays cycle opens on 9/30 at myfooddays.com!  

 

Fooddays cycle 2 opens on September 30th and remains open for food orders until October 17th. This covers lunch items for November and December.

Community Announcements

 

STEM Program 

Somerset County Freeholder Deputy Director Patricia L. Walsh invites girls in grades seven and eight to apply to the Commission on the Status of Women’s fourth annual STEM program. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School located on Vogt Drive. The program is limited to 90 girls. The deadline to apply is Oct. 4.

 

The STEM program is specifically designed to encourage and prepare seventh- and eighth-grade girls for successful careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

This is an excellent opportunity for girls to learn about technical disciplines while developing valuable team-building skills. They will also have the chance to interact with a panel of successful STEM women who will provide insights, answer questions and discuss possible mentoring opportunities.

Participants will play educational games, win prizes, interact with mentors who are successful STEM members, and enjoy a lunch that will be provided at the event. The free event is open to Somerset County residents ONLY. Applications must be received by Oct. 4. To obtain an application form visit www.co.somerset.nj.us/STEM. This event is organized by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women and is sponsored by ExxonMobil, RWJBarnabas Health and Bricks 4 Kidz.

Somerset Youth Council

Attached please find two flyers in reference to the Somerset County Youth Council.

  • The first is a registration form for the 23rd Youth Conference that is being held on Thursday, October 17th from 5:30pm-9:00pm. Pre Registration is required. Open to all students in Grades 7-12.

  • The second is information pertaining to becoming a member of the Somerset County Youth Council. Membership is open to all students in Grades 7-11.
