A message from Mrs. Brennan:

Welcome back to School

Focus: Healthy Snacks

 

Snack time should not be considered Treat time! Young bodies need optimal nutrition to perform their best. Please avoid nuts during snack time. Foods containing nuts are permitted during lunch (i.e. PBJ sandwich)

 CHALLENGE: AVOID sending in processed unhealthy snacks such as oreos, brownies, chips, etc.  CHOOSE HEALTHY OPTIONS

Healthy Snack Ideas:

  • Any fruit/vegetable
  • Veggie sticks with hummus or ranch dip
  • Popcorn 
  • Yogurt topped with berries or favorite fruit
  • Applesauce
  • Cheese stick and apple
  • Whole grain crackers and cheese
  • Whole grain granola or protein bar
  • Muffins made with fruit /whole grains
  • Banana bread
  • Trail mix-cereal, dried fruit
  • Fruit Kebabs 
  • ½ slice Whole grain bread with sunflower seed butter and banana or apple
  • Smoothies: Mix in a blender milk (1⁄2 cup skim), fruit (1⁄2 cup berries) and yogurt (2 oz.). Kids love them frozen, too.
