Homework Policy

Homework Policy for Mrs. Ordner's 4th Grade

1. Homework is assigned each night Monday through Thursday.

2. Homework assignments are an extension and/or review of the day's lessons.

3. Each student has a planner in which the day's assignment will be recorded.

4. Homework assignments are collected or reviewed on a daily basis and are due the day after they are assigned unless stated otherwise.

Homework is an essential component of the learning process in fourth grade.

Why assign homework?

Homework is useful in that it reinforces what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive habits.  Assignments will support skills and objectives that are covered in class.

When will homework be assigned?

Homework will be assigned four nights a week (Monday through Thursday).  Homework should take approximately one hour for students to complete each night, not including studying for tests or working on projects.  Students will be notified of a test a week in advance.

What is the student's homework responsibilities?

Students will copy their homework from the board into their homework planner each day.  Students are expected to do their best when completing their homework assignments.  Homework should be written neatly and in cursive.  Students should be able to complete homework independently and only ask for help after they have given it their best effort.  All assignments are expected to be turned in on time.

What is the teacher's homework responsibilities?

The teacher will check students' homework daily for completion.  All homework is reviewed in class.  The teacher will also keep track of completed and missed assignments.  Homework will be calculated into each subject's final average.

What is the parent's homework responsibilities?

Parents are key to making homework a positive experience for their children.  Therefore, we ask that parents make homework a top priority.  Parents should provide necessary supplies, help their children designate a quiet area at home for homework completion and studying, help their children establish a structured time of the day that is devoted to homework (preferably right after school), not let children avoid homework, provide praise and support, and contact the teacher if they notice a problem.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.
