Speech & Language - September

WELCOME TO SPEECH & LANGUAGE!

Students in a school bus

My name is Mrs. Runfola and I am the Speech-Language Pathologist for the preschool program at Mount Horeb School!  I am a certified Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of New Jersey and I hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).  The best way for us to communicate this year will be via email or phone! Practice of your child’s speech and language skills at home is paramount to their success and progress!  By working with your child, you will help in maintaining newly learned skills and generalizing these skills into other environments. Your child is SO important to me and I am always available to discuss goals and progress at any time.  I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year!!

Best regards,
Mrs. Runfola, M.S., CCC-SLP

The Speech-Language Specialists of Warren Township created the following website as a resource for parents, which includes a variety of resources/activities for your child to complete at home:

Preschool Speech & Language Information:

Young children learn through play!  That means you’re going to have plenty of opportunities for communication this fall.  Communication happens all day long, which means you can incorporate it into any part of your day!  During any fall activity you do with your child, think about how to coordinate the topic of your child’s speech and language goals!  For example…

Fall topic: Football

  • Language activity: stand across from your child.  Name a word & have your child nape the opposite!  If they get it correct, throw him/her the ball.  Let him/her name a word and you name an opposite before he/she throws the ball back!  How long can you keep it going while naming opposites correctly?!
  • Target vocabulary: throw, kick, football, score, team, win
  • Speech activity: Use chalk and make a mini football field.  Write one speech word on each yard line.  Have your child say the word then let him/her move 10 yards for each correct word until he/she scores a touchdown!
