Welcome to Mrs. Fishelman's Class

May 5th9th
Welcome to Mt. Horeb and to my Kindergarten Class! This will be a wonderful year of new beginnings and new adventures. We will learn, grow and build friendships. We will also spend much time fostering social and emotional learning. Thank you for sharing your children with me and entrusting me with their growth!
Feel free to reach out to me any time. You can email me at mfishelman@warrentboe.org
or you can call the school and leave me a voicemail at ext. 6405.
This week we will will work on the following:
Math-composing and decomposing teen numbers. Making addition sentences with 10 and then some more.
In Being a Reader we will hear poetry, visualize what is being read and reading poems with our buddies. We will also revisit all the poems we've learned so far this year. We will discuss our favorites and why they were our favorites.
In Being a Writer we will be listening to poems. We will be making a chart about things we can write poems about. We will make a shared class poem. Then we will write our own poems and books.
Handwriting: review of all lowercase letters.
Vocab- Our new words this week were: pointy, diet (as in the typical food one eats) playful, active
Heggerty Phonics- We will: supply rhyming words, listening for beginning sounds in words, listening for ending sounds in words, taking away the medial sound to see what word is left, changing the beginning sound from one sound to another to change the word, counting syllables, repeating a sentence and counting the number of words.
In Science, we will learn about extreme weather (hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards). We will see what items are needed to help during a storm. We will act out how to get ready for different types of severe weather.
Social Studies-We will begin learning about Mother's Day and work on a gift.
Your partner in educating your children,
Meredith Fishelman
