IMG_0181.JPGJenny Kaniuka is the Warren district vocal music teacher for grades K thru 2. She first began her career in Warren in September 1996. Mrs. Kaniuka's home school is Central School. 

She graduated from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers in 1989 with a degree in vocal performance and completed her master’s degree in music education from Mason Gross in January 2010. Mrs. Kaniuka also holds certification from Westminster Choir College in the Kodaly method- an approach to teaching music literacy and performance through the cultivation of the singing voice through folksong. She is also knowledgeable in the approaches of Orff, Gordon, Feierabend, and Houlahan and Tacka. She employs techniques from these approaches in her teaching at all grade levels. In addition to singing, Mrs. Kaniuka is a skilled pianist and plays woodwind instruments, lap dulcimer, and ukulele.

 

Mrs. Kaniuka has performed frequently with the Crescent Choral Society in Plainfield both as a choir member and a vocal soloist. She also cantors and accompanies at St. Joseph's Church in North Plainfield and at St. John's Church in Dunellen where she has had many original compositions performed. Most recently, Mrs. Kaniuka has earned the title, "St. John's composer in residence" due to her numerous musical contributions to church celebrations including Mass of the Evangelist which was composed to celebrate St. John's 100th Jubilee. She is often commissioned to produce musical works for choir, keyboard, and small instrumental ensembles. Her works have been entered in national competitions and have received high accolades. Mrs. Kaniuka frequently composes and arranges music for her students to perform and emphasizes sight reading and notational skills in her music classes.  

 

Mrs. Kaniuka lives with her husband and son, Julian, in a restored Victorian home in North Plainfield that they share with three cats, a rabbit, and a turtle. In her spare time, she is involved with USA and NJSDC (New Jersey Swimming and Diving Committee) swimming organizations where her son is a champion swimmer.
