New Jersey Subsidized School Meals Program

Ensuring every student has access to healthy, nutritious meals is an important part of supporting their success in school. New Jersey offers free and reduced‑price breakfast and lunch to eligible families, helping to make sure children receive the nourishment they need throughout the school day.

Who Can Apply

Many families qualify, including those who:

  • Receive SNAP, TANF, or other assistance
  • Meet income guidelines based on household size
  • Are experiencing temporary financial hardship

Even if you’re unsure whether you qualify, families are encouraged to apply. Completing the application helps the school district determine eligibility and ensures students receive the support they need.

Why It Matters

Healthy meals help students:

  • Stay focused in class
  • Maintain energy throughout the day
  • Build lifelong habits around nutrition

Applying is confidential, and approval does not affect immigration status or public benefits outside of the school meals program.
