What is math compacting?

As a part of Warren’s continued commitment to provide challenging educational experiences to meet the academic needs of its students, the Reach program will continue to provide a math compacting program.

 Math Compacting

What is it?

Math compacting is a procedure that effective classroom teachers have been using for years. Compacting streamlines the amount of time students spend on previously mastered math skills. Implementation of the compacting model allows students to demonstrate what they know, to concentrate on areas where work is needed, and to immerse themselves in math enrichment activities and problems requiring the application of mastered math skills.

 Who does it involve?

Students in grades one through five will have the opportunity to participate in math compacting. Participation in the program depends on mastery of skills presented in the math textbook.

 How is it done?

At the beginning of each unit of study, students in grades one through five will receive a pretest to determine their level of mastery over the material. Students who achieve a test score of 96% or above will be given math enrichment to meet their educational needs.

Small group instruction will be given twice a week by the Reach teacher. Compacted students will receive math compacting lessons consisting of math enrichment activities.

The Reach department is enthusiastic about this program. Please contact Dr. Kline if you have any questions about the math compacting program.
