Dear Woodland Families,

On Monday and Tuesday I had the distict honor of joining Dr. Mingle and Mr. Yenish as we represented the Woodland family at the 2017 Blue Ribbon Ceremony in Washington DC.   While there, we had the opportunity to hear inspiring stories, meet educators from other exemplary schools and receive Woodland's official Blue Ribbon plaque and flag.  We took enormous pride in accepting the award on behalf of all current and former students, staff, administrators and families of Woodland.   The two days in Washington DC have given me time to reflect on how lucky I am to work with such amazing people.  While our performance on standardized tests has contributed to our Blue Ribbon status, it is the connections between the entire Woodland family that make us most succesful.  Each day I get to witness Woodland educators as they motivate, inspire and encourage young children to meet their potential.  Each day I work with a community that believes in, and supports, the mission of our school.   A school can only become Blue Ribbon when the students, staff and community operate as a true family.   We have that here at Woodland School.  We should ALL be proud of this special moment, for we ALL have played a part in becoming Blue Ribbon.   I hope that you will join us on November 30th from 6:30-8pm at Woodland School for our official Blue Ribbon celebration.

I also would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to visit Woodland school classrooms on Friday, November 17th from 1:30-3pm for American Education Week.   More information regarding the American Education Week visit is attached.  (as well as a picture from the Blue Ribbon ceremony)

Lastly, due to the American Education Week visit the November 17th "Decade" Spirit Day is postponed until further notice.

Kindly,

Jeff Heaney
