Dear Woodland Families,

Next week we will be celebrating the “Week of Making Good Choices”.   Throughout the week, we will do several activities centered on the themes of kindness, compassion, helping others and making choices that support positive growth.

On Monday, I will visit each classroom and talk to the students about the importance of the choices we make and the power of kindness and compassion.  “Compassion It” bracelets will be given to each student and staff member.   We will begin each day with the black side of the bracelet facing out.  The goal is to flip your bracelet to the other side by making a positive choice that demonstrates kindness and compassion towards another person.  It is my hope that students and staff will take this lesson with them throughout all of their days at Woodland School and into their lives.  Thank you to Mrs. Opell for bringing this wonderful idea to my attention and to the PTO for sponsoring the bracelets.   I encourage you to have conversations with your child about the acts of kindness and compassion they demonstrated.

The staff will be looking to “catch students making good choices”.  Student names will be written on sports themed certificates and added to our Good Choices board in the APR.

Mrs. Langworthy and Ms. von Bartheld will be visiting classrooms and will present lessons centered around the themes.

Mrs. Zaleski read the book Only One You, by Linda Kranz, to the students. Thanks to Mrs. Leonard for bringing this book to my attention and for all of her hard work in coordinating the school wide rock painting activity.  Through the book and painting activity, we hope that the students will make a meaningful connection and understand that they, in their own way, can truly make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of those around them. They will celebrate their uniqueness as they paint a rock that will be displayed around the outsideof the building.  We hope to encourage self-confidence in our students while celebrating individuality and appreciating the diversity of the world around us.   Another big thank you to the PTO for purchasing the rocks.
