Maker Monday

The topic for today is catapulting.  We will have a contest at the end of the period to see which catapult throws the furthest.

The topic for this week is building with paper.  The students will be encouraged to create the longest flying paper airplanes, and developing some masterpieces with origami.

Maker Mondays will take place on the first Monday of each month, and will be available to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students (one grade level per month).  This is an opportunity for students to come into the library during their playtime and work with friends on creative and collaborative projects.


The topic for May is fingerprint art.  The fourth graders may work independently or with friends to create a masterpiece using their fingerprints.  They are welcome to make a picture or even a card (Father's Day is on the way!).  The following websites have some inspiring artwork:

In honor of Poetry Month, the topic for April is Poetry.  The third graders will be encouraged to create poems using a magnetic poetry kit, an online poetry making website, and good old paper and pencil!

The topic for March is catapulting.  

The topic for November (in honor of the Macy's Day Parade) is puppet making.  The students will be encouraged to create stick puppets, paper bag puppets, finger puppets, and even shadow puppets.
