Reading Workshop

OVERVIEW OF READING WORKSHOP

In Reading Workshop, we vary the sizes of the groups we teach: whole group, small group, and individual teaching.  We use predictable structures to  keep all instruction efficient and manageable. We select the structures within the workshop based on what the readers need.

READING WORKSHOP is...
  • Showing students how we read
  • Mentoring students with how to make choices as a reader
  • Helping students understand how they read
  • Teaching students other ways of reading closely and deeply
  • Teaching strategies that are portable & transferable
  • Asking questions that are generalizable
  • Mentoring readers to make choices
