Welcome to the Angelo L. Tomaso School
Angelo L. Tomaso School: Mission Statement

“As a community of children, parents and educators we seek to provide our students with an educational environment that is enriched, safe, stable and productive. Our goal is to maintain an instructional setting that stimulates curiosity and sensitizes children to the world in which they live. Our School Wide Theme Celebrations are an example of the many group projects that form the fabric of who we are and what we do. All the members of our educational community therefore share some role in providing our students with programs and surroundings that will encourage them to engage in a lifetime of learning.”

Welcome to the home of the ALT Dolphins, where we believe that Fostering A Love of Learning is a priority. This year at the Angelo L. Tomaso School we will have approximately 361 students enrolled for the 2009-10 school year, and we will be looking forward to an exciting year.

This year, the PTO will provide monthly events to celebrate our All-Star Theme for the year. Events will focus on Friendship, Mystery, Music, Sports, Spirit of America, Nutrition, Technology, Acrobats, and Family. All of the programs will enhance an already enriched cultural arts program and curriculum.

The Angelo L. Tomaso School is dedicated to educating students about making wise choices regarding their environment. We support the district initiative of going paperless and we have also incorporated other student directed activities to develop a greater appreciation for the world we live in. These activities include: Nature’s Pathway, our outdoor classroom, Fourth Grade Recycling Program, Composting Project and Gardening Club.

Developing good character and taking responsibility for one’s own action is an important lifelong quality. At the Angelo L. Tomaso School we support Dr. Marshall’s Raise Responsibility System, which promotes, positivity, reflection and making good choices. We also provide instruction on the elements and skill for Conflict Resolution and Bullying, taken from the work by Stan Davis. This year we are looking forward to implementing a Bystander Program as well.

Over the past two years, the Board of Education and the ALT PTO have combined efforts to provide the school with seven SMARTBoards. This new technology tool has increased the level of interaction within the classroom lessons. Currently all fifth grade classrooms and several of the specialists at ALT are using them.

Over the past two years, teachers in the district have been working on the developing and implementing a new Language Arts Program. This year, teachers will focus on delivering writing instruction based on the work of Katie Wood Ray’s, Writing Workshop With Our Youngest Writers, and Lucy Calkins’s, The Art of Teaching Writing.
