X Other Reasons
It is the desire of the board that two-way channels of communication be kept open at all times between the school system and the people of the school district. The board will try to develop programs that reflect the public's wishes, and will do its best to keep the people informed of the affairs of the school system.
The superintendent shall be responsible for establishing relations with news media, and providing particular information to each through the means found most suitable. Particularly, he/she shall ensure that the media receive all school report cards as required by the administrative code.
Every effort shall be made to assist all communications media in the community to gain complete and adequate coverage of the programs, problems, planning, and activities of the school system.
General releases of interest to the entire district shall be made available to all the media simultaneously. There shall be no exclusive releases, news conferences or interviews except as media representatives request information on particular programs, plans, or problems.
The board encourages public presentation of the programs, policies and progress of the schools through the media. Building principals shall clear proposed presentations with the superintendent. The superintendent shall ensure that the parents/guardians of pupils who participate in such presentations are informed.
School News Releases
The superintendent is responsible for all news releases relative to the schools and may delegate authority to the principals to release general information pertaining to the school such as: school calendar, scheduled activities and other routine administrative notices. All other information of an emergent and unexpected nature or controversial in any way will be approved by the superintendent prior to release to the news media. Principals are directed to consult the superintendent in any questionable situations.
All matters representing the official position of this district prepared for publication by any of its employees shall be approved by the superintendent prior to release to the public press.
The superintendent or designee shall devise procedures for optimum benefit from such presentations.
